A Good God

A good God in the good times

When I walked His way in peace

Good when, childlike, I followed Him

Down a trail marked with ease

But difficulty cometh

Would God’s goodness yet remain

At death’s bedside, in the OR,

When my heart cries out with pain?

When babies die and mothers

If no children fill my arms

When my prayers meet “no’s” or “yes’s”

Life brings pleasures or alarms

Yes in each situation

In each “no” and in each “yes”

Even if the “no” were final

I’d still dwell in His goodness

I know He plans for my good

Though each good gift giv’n should go

If “the Lord gives” or He taketh

“Jesus loves me, this I know”
