Heroes

A man who was a hero

Yet was stained by heinous sin

Can we follow in his footsteps though

The taint is deep within?

This one committed murder,

That one had so many wives

He was quick to lose his temper

He, as slaves, held other lives.

Heroes? How with lives divided

Faithful here, then wicked err.

But He qualifies the order

“As I follow Christ,” – go there.

“As I follow,” where they’re faithful

Imitating their true faith,

Following with careful wisdom and

Their sin learning to hate
